Public SaaS valuation indexes compared

Last verified November 6, 2026 · Source: SaaS Valuation Index, Nov 6, 2026, 2:05 PM ET; SEG, SaaS Capital and Aventis, latest published readings

Three public SaaS indexes are quoted most often. They sit within 0.5x of each other in late 2026, but they measure different things, so compare a reading only with the same index over time.

Why the readings differ

  • Numerator. SEG and Aventis use enterprise value, which adds debt and subtracts cash. SaaS Capital uses market cap.
  • Denominator. SEG uses trailing twelve months revenue. SaaS Capital annualizes the latest month, which is higher than trailing revenue for a growing company, so its multiple reads lower for the same price.
  • Members. Aventis includes only companies above $1B market cap. Smaller companies usually trade at lower multiples.
  • Timing. SEG publishes quarterly, SaaS Capital monthly, Aventis on a rolling basis. A month of market moves can change a median by 0.5x or more: the SaaS Capital Index went from 3.1x in June 2026 to 4.6x in August 2026.

Which one to use

For a private company sale, none of them is the price. Private deals use their own data: see BVR DealStats by revenue bracket and the private SaaS estimate, which turns a public index reading into a private ARR multiple.
